The Dangerous Effects Of Drunk Driving - 2026 Words
The horror stories continue to increase, the lives of the innocent are silenced in one moment, and no highways are safe to use to escape this trauma that has taken the country by storm. The trauma that has caused so many lives and so much tax money is drunk driving. Drunk-driving is not only dangerous for the driver of the vehicle, but also for the passengers and everyone in proximity of the driver s path. If the penalties are raised for drunk-driving offenses, all of the horror stories of crashes on highways and the loss of innocent lives can be prevented and the frequency of other alcohol related criminal activities would decrease dramatically because the deterrence from the laws would be more effective and have a wider audience. The drunk-driving laws that were implemented before the Zero-Tolerance era took a position stating that ââ¬Å"[drunk-driving] laws [were to be] aimed at youth under age 21[. Specifically,] underage youth [were] subject to the same BAC [(Blood Alcohol Con tent)] threshold as adults over age 21, generally in the range .08ââ¬â.10 [BAC]â⬠(Carpenter, ââ¬Å"Heavy Alcohol...Crimeâ⬠). These laws were problematic because .08 BAC for a young adult (age 20 or under) still has a more devastating effect on a young adult s body than on an adult 21 or over. The reason for this is that a young adult s brain and body are still developing, so if alcohol is introduced into the young adult s body multiple organs could be corrupted and deform. The BAC limit is also indirectlyShow MoreRelatedDrunk Drivers Should Not Be Banned1279 Words à |à 6 Pagesa large amount of drunk driving accidents almost every year there are drunk drivers getting away and not having any harsh consequences.Drunk driving has killed over hundreds of citizens due to the mistakes by over intoxicated drivers. Excessive Wealth Flows to the Government - 629 Words
Excessive wealth flowing directly to the highly centralized state does allow governments to provide a variety of services, such as education and health care, without having to tax the people. These benefits, however, do come with strings attached. Little to no taxation puts the people in a poor position to demand representation from their governments. Citizens have not even developed ââ¬Å"expectations of accountabilityâ⬠for their rulers, because they have not required that the people pay taxes, (Diamond, 2010. pg 98). Regimes, therefore, have their justification for autocratic rule, paid for in full by oil money. This results in an incredibly weak and un-empowered civil society. Governments are able to circumvent if not entirely ignore traditional checks on political authority simply because their economic gains have made them stronger than other social forces, (Tetreault, 2013.pg 259-60). In addition to keeping the general public on the low end of the socioeconomic scale, o il money allows regimes to build incredibly strong, impressive security states. Governments can afford various forms of surveillance, such as secret police, as well as coercion, control of the media and any other measures they deem necessary to help keep them in power. (Diamond, 2010. pg 98). These mechanisms provide them with the ability to enforce their rigid and controlling policies that prevent citizens from effectively taking steps toward democracy. Noah Drapacz Essay Example For Students
Noah Drapacz Essay American History AP9/7/03 Document-Based QuestionIn 1765 the British government imposed a new taxation on the coloniesknown as the Stamp Act. It called for colonials to be taxed for goods suchas playing cards, news papers, marriage documents, and diplomas, in orderto fund their supposed protection. Although British citizens were taxedmuch more for the protection of the colonies, Americans demanded that theynot be taxed at all without representation in the parliament. The phraseno taxation without representation soon became a motivating force of theAmerican Revolution and of a symbol of democracy. At first these words were nothing more than an excuse not to paytaxes. Actually the colonies were not striving for a seat in theparliament, knowing that they would be taxed for more than the position wasworth to them. Instead they were looking for a way to get around thetaxation and maybe even an excuse to rebel. This is evidenced in Document Bwhich states the Stamp Act Congress in 1765, concluded that the coloniesshould not be represented in parliament, but should not be taxed either. The colonies did not push for total freedom yet. Daniel Dulany statesthat the British still should have the right to regulate the coloniestrade, which was perhaps a greater problem to the colonies economy thanthe tax was. However, the colonists did not have a constitutional rightthat prevented trade-control as they did with taxation. The so-called protection the colonies, as well as the Britishcitizens were taxed for was a garrison of British solders to be stationedin the colonies. The fact that they were being stationed there at peacetimearoused many suspicions about the real intention of the troops stationedthere. Joseph Warren suggested in a speech he delivered in Boston, that thearmy was there to keep the colonists under their watch, and enforceobedience. In the Second continental congress held in 1775, reasons were listedfor the necessity for the colonists to go to war with the British. Thereasons included using the colonists money without their consent, depriving them of a trial by jury, controlling and limiting their trade, and exempting murderers of colonists from trial. Americans such as ThomasPaine also thought it strange that a continent as large as America wascontrolled by the small island of Great Britain. In time the demand for no taxation without representation became asymbol of democracy. For example, in a 1780 petition of free Negroes forthe right to vote, they compared their situation to that of Americas. Justlike America was taxed by England without representation in theirparliament, freed blacks were being taxed without the right to vote. Theircomparison shows how the demand that started the American Revolution isalso a symbol of many American ideals. The Americans reaction to the Stamp Act was in 1765 was a greatturning point in the history of the colonies, and the very idea that wasused to drive the revolution. Although colonists were treated unfairly thiswas the only way in which they were treated unconstitutionally and theyused it to justify a rebellion against their mother country.

Womens Breath freshener Trotula, 11th Century, On Womens Cosmetics (book 3) I saw a certain Saracen woman liberate many people with this medicine. Take little bit of laurel leaves, and a little bit of musk, and let her hold it under the tongue before bad break is perceived in her. When I recommend that day and night and especially when she has to have sexual intercourse with anyone she hold these things under her tongue. Redaction: Provided are 3 redactions: fresh bay leaves (to try) * a bay leaf treated with musk fragrance (to smell) * some bay leaves soaked in orange-flower water (to smell or try) A laurel leaf is in fact a leaf of the bay laurel, called bay leaves. A piece of bay leaf about 1 cm square seems to be the most manageable and comfortable size, especially if it is to be kept in place during vigorous exercise. Natural musk is an animal product, in texture simila r to an oleoresin. However, since we now consider it cruel to slaughter deer simply for the contents of the glands in their buttocks, the real thing is no longer available. In Australia, musk flavored Lifesavers are available, but I was unable to find musk food-flavoring here in the US. So I had to settle for a non-foodsafe synthetic musk fragrance oil, Jakarta Musk, and mix it with the bay by anointing the leaf with it. Kirel from the SCA-Cooks list suggested that the flavor of musk is in the same category as orangeflower water. So Ive also soaked a bay leaf in some orange-flower water. My experience of medieval and renaissance recipes is that musk is generally used more for scent than for medicinal properties, so this substitution would not likely decrease any medical properties. Orange-flower water is mentioned in the Manual de Mugeres, a Spanish text, so while it might not have been available to the original readers of Trotula, it would be available in the Mediterranean later on, and used for perfuming purposes. Take powdered bay leaves and some dried orange peels and bunch them so they are lined up together. Rub this gently on your teeth. Bay Leaves and Orange Peel; the mixture of bay leaves and orange peel is also one of the tooth whitening at-home methods. Dry the orange peel and powder the bay leaves properly. Apply this mixture on your teeth, to make them whiter.

Can You Take the ACT After High School Expert Guide
Can You Take the ACT After High School Expert Guide SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips If you'rean adult who needs or wants to take the ACT, you might be worried. Most people taking the test are 16 or 17, but can you take the ACT after high school? Yes, you absolutely can! There are many valid reasons for taking theACT after high school, and the process barely differs from taking it as a teenager. In this article, Iââ¬â¢ll discuss the reasons you may want or need to take the testas an adult, how to register, how testing as an adult will be different, as well as additional advice. Why Take the ACT After High School? Taking the ACT is definitely not something to do for fun.Preparing for the ACT is a big time commitment (not to mention spending 4+ hours on a Saturday to take the test).Donââ¬â¢t do take the ACT if you donââ¬â¢t need to, but there are three good reasons to take the ACT. #1: Youââ¬â¢re Applying to College If you took some time off after high school and never took the ACT, you'll most likely need to take it (or the SAT) for your college applications. If you took the ACT during high school, you might not need to retake the test now. ACT scores from October 1, 1966, to today, are stored online by the ACT.While the ACT will send scores from as far back as 1966, some colleges require you to send an ACT score from the last 3-5 years.Check the individual collegeââ¬â¢s application requirements. You should be able to find the applications requirements by doing a Google search for ââ¬Å"[College Name] application requirements.â⬠Additionally, if you did take the ACT during high school, you still may elect to retake the ACT to raise your score. To give yourself the best chance of being accepted, you want your ACT score to be at or above the 75th percentile ACT score of admitted students at your target school.I urge you to read our guide to finding your target ACT score for more information about this. NOTE: Not all universities want you to send a test score. Some colleges donââ¬â¢t require ACT scores for adults who never took the ACT in high school or for whom taking the ACT would be excessively difficult such as a deployed soldier.Furthermore, some schools are test-optional or test-blind, meaning they donââ¬â¢t require you to send ACT scores. If youââ¬â¢re only applying to test-optional or test-blind schools, then you donââ¬â¢t need to take the ACT. Check out the admissions website for each of your target colleges to find out their application requirements. You should be able to find the application requirements by doing a Google search for ââ¬Å"[College Name] application requirements.â⬠If youââ¬â¢re unable to find this information online, then you should send an email or call the collegeââ¬â¢s admissions office. #2: Youââ¬â¢re Applying to Transfer Colleges Interested in switching from your community college or 4-year university to a different 4-year university? If so, you might need to submit an ACT or SAT score with your application. If youââ¬â¢re applying to transfer after only six months to a year at that college or community college, then you most likely need to submit an ACT or SAT score with your application. However, if you have an ACT or SAT score from high school, then youââ¬â¢ll probably be able to use that score though you may want to take the ACT to raise your score. To give yourself the best shot of being admitted, you need your ACT score to be at or above the 75th percentile ACT score of admitted students at your target school.Definitely read our guide to finding your target ACT scorefor more information about this. As I noted in the section above, you wonââ¬â¢t need to submit a test score if youââ¬â¢re only applying to test-optional or test-blind schools.Check out the admissions website for each of your target colleges to find out their application requirements. You should be able to find the application requirements by doing a Google search for ââ¬Å"[College Name] application requirements.â⬠If youââ¬â¢re unable to find this information online, then you should send an email or call the collegeââ¬â¢s admissions office. #3: Youââ¬â¢re Applying for a Job or Scholarship More jobs are now requiring you to submit a test score from test-prep companies to investment banking. Also, many scholarships require you to score within a certain range on the ACT or SAT.If you took the ACT in high school, you might be allowed to send those scores, but if you didnââ¬â¢t or if you need to raise your score to qualify, youââ¬â¢ll have to take the ACT now as an adult. Check out what the score requirements are for the job/scholarship and make sure you adhere to them. Some may ask for a high school ACT score and may not consider a new score. Others may not want a score thatââ¬â¢s older than 3-5 years.Know the requirements, and if youââ¬â¢re unsure, call or email to clarify. How to Take the ACTAfter High School Whatever your reason for takingthe ACT after high school, Iââ¬â¢ll walk you through the logistics of registering for and taking the test. Registering for the ACT You can register on the ACT website. The registration process will involve entering your personal information, submitting a photo or yourself, paying the registration fee, etc. It can be just slightlymore difficultas an adult since the entire registration process is geared towards high school students. However, it's only minor inconveniences. The ACT asks for parent information, but you can leave thatblank. Also, it asks for your high school, but there is an option to say"I am not in high school." Otherwise, answer the rest of the questions to the best of your ability. Read our full guide that walks you through every step of the ACT registration process. Where Do You Take the ACT? When you register to take the ACT, youââ¬â¢ll select your test center location.Youââ¬â¢ll be able to search for a test center close to you.NOTE: Itââ¬â¢s best to sign up early as test centers can fill up.The earlier you register, the more likely youââ¬â¢ll get your choice of the test centers. How Is Testing as an Adult Different? I'm not going to lie: as someone who took the SAT last year at age 23, it's kind of weird at first.Showing up to check in among high school students feels strange. However, once Igot over the initial weirdness, I felt confident.I remember being so nervous to take the ACT and SATin high school; I felt that there was so much pressure riding on the test. As an adult, you realize one test will not define you. I was able to relax more and do better on the test due to my newfound confidence. I hope you feel the same when you sit for the ACT! ACT Testing After High School: Advice Just because the ACT is a test for high schoolers doesnââ¬â¢t mean it will be easier for you as a high school grad.Donââ¬â¢t underestimate the test.Itââ¬â¢s tricky and very fast-paced. Also, as a high school grad, you actually might be at a disadvantage since there are probably some high school fundamental topics that youââ¬â¢ve forgotten or are a little rusty on.If you havenââ¬â¢t studied Math since high school, you might have forgotten how to solve a system of equations or how to find the sine of an angle. Donââ¬â¢t assume the test will be a breeze: you must prepare for the ACT. 3 Tips for Prepping for the ACT as an Adult To get the best score possible on the ACT, youââ¬â¢ll want to prepare. Here are three key tips for prep success: Tip #1: Know the ACT Format The best way to learn the ACT format is to take as many ACT practice tests as you can. However, the practice wonââ¬â¢t help if you donââ¬â¢t take the tests under realistic testing conditionswhile keeping accurate time and if you donââ¬â¢t review the practice tests. Feed Resource Recvery Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Feed Resource Recvery - Research Paper Example The second was the restaurant industry which accounted for about 500 tons of food waste, followed by supermarkets, accounting for around 200 to 400 tons. These are the competitors on the supply chain side who can also turn themselves into CleanTech industry and make a fortune. Now at the industrial level, the biggest and most potential competition for Feed stems from Converted Organics Inc, BlueFire Ethanol, Inc, Disenco Energy PLC, Oakleaf, Rod McLellan Co, and Synargo Technologies. These firms are expert in Organic Soil Additive industry, Green waste management industry, Home power plant manufacturing industry, Recycling equipment manufacturing industry, naturally derived fertilizer manufacturing industry and Residual recycling industry respectively. The best thing about these competitors of Feed is that they are stock listed and already serving a customer base varying from 100,000 to 250,000 customers every year (Zacharakis-Jutz, 2008). Venture capitalists are eager to invest and interested in diversifying their source of income as they can already see the respective industry which Shane wants to enter as a lucrative one. In 2001, the investments made in this sector were only around $500 million to $600 million, which has increased to a staggering $ 2500 to $ 2600 million by 2007 (Zacharakis-Jutz, 2008). Another factor responsible for investors to invest in CleanTech industry is the raising prices of gasoline and fossil fuel around the globe. In this manner, CleanTechââ¬â¢s products seem to be the future of fuel engineering and consumption. Another major factor is the increasing awareness regarding the global warming and impact of industrial waste and carbon emissions on the global weather. With the arrival of CleanTech products, this problem could be solved in an efficient and cheaper manner. Last, but not the least, is consumer markets all over the world are now becoming loyal to those businesses who conduct their business activities with a greener and an eco-friendly strategy (Estes, 2009). Being a venture capitalist, my first and foremost attempt would be to understand how CleanTech industry is unique or which aspects must be considered that make this industry different from others. My second question would be regarding the valuation of the company that I am interested to invest in. By knowing this, I would be able to compare the offered number of shares or equity in the company against the investment I am expected to make. Then, a series of questions focused on different functional costs and operating costs would be there, just to understand the acquisition cost structure that the company will follow. The last part of my interrogation would focus on understanding the person who is asking for investment, as the personality traits also influence decision making skills heavily. I would like to know the background of the entrepreneur, since when he/she has been thinking about this project, what is the vision or success ideas that t hey have in mind, what type of involvement they require from my side in this venture, and when they are going to pay me back my money (Cumming, 2010). Considering the mammoth amount required to build the prototype of the product, it appears that Shan and Ryanââ¬â¢s family will definitely need time to arrange it. In the business world, if an idea is generated by entrepreneurs, it needs to be implemented as soon
